FCC and Broadcasters Battle Over Digital TV Transition Ads - FCC may require more informative ads to be run daily

The FCC continues to have concerns that the forced transition from analog to digital television due to be complete in February 2009 is going to be a mess. They fear that consumers still don t know about the transition and are considering a plan which would increase the number of ads broadcasters are required to run. If approved, each station would have to air at least four PSAs daily with the number increasing steadily as the date gets closer. Broadcasters have offered a counter-proposal which would have local stations airing 12 PSAs weekly with separate ads on certain channels. It has been suggested that the problem isn t that people aren t aware of the transition but that they remain confused about what it means for them.]]>
