The NetBSD website features an interview with Joachim Schueth, who has beaten a reconstruction of the famous Colossus Mark II code breaking machine in cracking messages that were encrypted with a SZ42 cipher machine. Amongst other things he comments on his choice of the NetBSD system and the Ada programming language for tackling this challenge.
