Bill Hart, Downtown Theatre Director, Dies at 70 30.11.1999 / Arts & Stage Playbill - Bill Hart, a director whose largely Off-Broadway-focused work led to collaborations with the likes of Sam Shepard, Joseph Chaikin and Joseph Papp, died Jan. 20, the New York Times reported. The cause was complications of pancreatic cancer. He was 70 and lived in Brooklyn.
